One Month of Astryx

A month ago we open-sourced Astryx, a code-first, AI-fluent React + StyleX design system, built and refined inside Meta for eight years. The goal: give every builder, human or agent, a design system that's fully customizable, production-grade, and legible to the tools now writing most of our UI. One month in, the early signal says the bet resonates.

By the numbers (first month)

  • GitHub: 10.3K stars · 758 forks · peaked at #2 on GitHub Trending across all repos during launch week
  • npm: @astryxdesign/core 190K · cli 126K · themes 480K across 7 themes
  • astryx.atmeta.com: 224K visitors · 1.79M page views
  • Community contributions: 87 people opened PRs · 61 authors pushed 815 commits to all branches

Built with Astryx

Real projects shipped on Astryx within the first month, from a company that rebuilt its entire site within hours of release to a growing set of community sites now in production.

What the community told us

Discussion converged on what makes Astryx different: the CLI, MCP server, and agent-first architecture:
  • Dominic Nguyen (Chromatic & Storybook, Founder) described Astryx as "infrastructure for a world where agents create most UI" in a post that became the most-engaged Astryx mention anywhere (link).
  • Aurora Scharff (React/Vercel, Engineer) profiled the Astryx site and, with a Cache Components migration, made navigation feel instant and up to 3x faster (link).
  • Yangshun Tay (GreatFrontEnd, Co-founder) dubbed Astryx "Tokenmaxxing done right," praising its extensive component set (including agentic UI), flexible CSS-variable theming, and AI-friendly CLI (link).
  • Independent, source-level analyses appeared organically in the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese developer communities within days.
  • The community is contributing back, from Figma mapping work to developers digging into the MCP internals with us, and momentum is growing toward community-led themes and translations.

Where we're headed

The launch was the start, not the finish. Our focus now is quality and depth, including hardening components, expanding themes and templates, tightening the AI-authoring loop (vibe tests + design-judge), and making it easier for external contributors to build with us. Community contributions are a first-class input from here on.

Thank you

To everyone who starred, shared, filed issues, and shipped PRs, thank you. Astryx is better because of you, and we're just getting started.

Show us what you built

We're gathering standout case studies built with Astryx. If you've shipped or are building something using Astryx that you'd like to show off, send us a link to your site or a screenshot at astryxdesign@meta.com. Select projects will be featured on astryx.atmeta.com, and we'll send a small token of gratitude in the form of Astryx swag 🤗.
